Question 411663: Hello I have huge problems with word problems.
The question is: The sum of three times a number and 7 more than the number is the same as the difference between -11 and twice the number. what is the number?
I know the awnser should come up as -3 yet I keep on setting up the equation wrong
I came up with the following different equations:
3(n+7n)=2n-11
3n+7n=2n-11
3(n+7)=2n-11

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let the number be x
3x%2B%287%2Bx%29=-11-2x
3x%2B7%2Bx=-11-2x
6x=-18
x=-3
Therefore the number is -3
