Question 411272: Hi, how do I solove a three term quadratic? Is it by reverse factoring or do I solove each sided term separately? Would you please help me?
(4x+10)^2=2x^2+5x+14
(4x+10)(4x+10)
16x^2+40x+40x+100=0
16x^2+80+100=0
(4x 10)(4x 10) What #'s add up to 80 but equals 100?
lost here so switch over to reverse factor
16x^2+80+100=0
16x^2+80x+100=0
4x^2(4+20)+100=0
not sure what to do here
-----
second term 2x^2+5x+14
-5+-sqrt((5)^2-4(2)(14))/(2(2))
-5+-sqrt(25-112)/(4)
-5+-sqrt(-87)/(4)
-5+-sqrt(3(29)i)/(4)
-5+- i sqrt(3(29))/(4)

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Why don't you simplify the left side, then combine like terms all on to one side to produce a single quadratic equation which can then be solved by the quadratic formula:
%284x%2B10%29%5E2+=+2x%5E2%2B5x%2B14 Expand the left side.
16x%5E2%2B80x%2B100+=+2x%5E2%2B5x%2B14 Combine like-terms.
14x%5E2%2B75x%2B86+=+0 Use quadratic formula.
x+=+%28-75%2B-sqrt%2875%5E2-4%2814%29%2886%29%29%29%2F2%2814%29 Simplify.
x+=+%28-75%2B-sqrt%28809%29%29%2F28 Evaluate.
x+=+-3.69 or x+=+-1.66
