Question 407004: solve this equation 32-P=20

You can put this solution on YOUR website! It may be more in depth than what I see, but I'm going to answer this question just as I see it. 32 minus what number give us 20. To solve this we first must get the variable, P, all by itself. First lets subtract 32 from each side. Remember what you do to one side you MUST do to the other. We are subtracting 32 because its the only way to get rid of the 32. We are left with -P = -12. Well we aren't done yet. We need P, not -P. If we look at it this way though, its much easier to see that -P is the same as -1 times P = -12. So if we divide each side by -1 we get P = 12. But, don't stop yet; yes 12 is the answer, but if you're still not confident, plug 12 back into the problem. We can check our answer by seeing if 32 - P, which was 12, so 32 - 12 is actually 20, and it is.
