For this type of inequality we can solve them much like we would any regular equation, except for one very important detail. When isolating the variable, if we need to divide by a NEGATIVE number then we must ALWAYS change the inequality sign.
So...
-4y + 6 < -14
First we can subtract 6 from both sides of the inequality...
-4y < -20
Then in order to isolate the variable (y) we need to divide both sides of the inequality by -4...Remenber to change the sign!
y > 5
This result tells us that y is equal to ALL numbers greater than 5.
So we can write our answer in the solution set...
(5,~) or (5, infinity)
