and your secondary equation:

Now the only question is, how do you get from the first to the second?
When you're faced with an equation like the first one, the first thing that you do is isolate the variable. Get it on to one side or the other and get rid of all the numbers around it.
So the first thing that you would do would be to subtract 7 from both sides. This would get the x alone.
That would leave you with x>-7.
So just fill in the sign as >.
