Let x, (x+1),(x+2),(x+3) represent the four consecutive numbers 

 x + (x+1)+(x+2)+(x+3)= 4x + 6

  (1/2)(4x+6) = 2x + 3   |2x would be an even number.   2x +3 an odd number
