You can put this solution on YOUR website! In printing an article of 48,000 words, a printer decides to use two sizes of type.
------------------------------
Using the larger type, a printed page contains 1,800 words.
Using a smaller type, a page contains 2,400 words.
The article is allotted 21 full pages in a magazine.
How many pages must be in smaller type?
------
Words Eq::: 1800L + 2400S = 48000 words
Pages Eq::: L + S = 21
----
Multiply thru the Pages Eq. by 1800 to get:
1800L + 1800S = 1800*21
-------------------
Subtract that from the Words Eq and solve for "S":
600S = 102000
S = 17 (# of smaller type pages)
======================================
