2x=2y+17

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
3x + y = 7
2x = 2y + 17---->2x - 2y = 17 {subtracted 2y from both sides}

3x + y = 7-------->6x + 2y = 14 {multiplied top equation by 2}
2x - 2y = 17------>2x - 2y = 17 {bottom equation stays the same}

8x = 31 {added the two new equations together}
x = 31/8 {divided both sides by 8}

3x + y = 7
3(31/8) + y = 7 {substituted 31/8 in for x, into top equation}
93/8 + y = 7 {multiplied 3 by 31/8}
y = 7 - 93/8 {subtracted 93/8 from both sides}
y = 56/8 - 93/8 {got a common denominator}
y = -37/8 {subtracted the numerators and put over common denominator}
