factoring ___ t^2(t^2 - 3t - 40) = 0

factoring the quadratic ___ t^2(t + 5)(t - 8) = 0

t^2 = 0 ___ taking square root ___ t=0

t + 5 = 0 ___ subtracting 5 ___ t = -5

t - 8 = 0 ___ adding 8 ___ t = 8

t%5E2%28t%5E2-3t-40%29=0 factor further
t%5E2%28t-8%29%28t%2B5%29=0 set each part equal to zero and solve for t
t%5E2=0
t=0
t-8=0
t=8

So the answers are t=0, or t=8 or t=-5.
