Question 401733: How do I check the answer for this rational expression problem?
3x/2 - 8 = 1/3
LCD is 6
(6)3x/2 - (6)8 = (6)1/3
= 9x - 48 = 2
= 9x = 2 + 48 (Multiply both sides by +48
= 9x/9 = 50/9
So, x = 50/9
I have been working on plugging in the answer where x is, but so far, I have not been able to come up with the 1/3. Please help!
Check: 3x/2 - 8 = 1/3
= 3(50/9)/2 - 8 = 1/3

Multiply thru by 6 to get:
9x - 48 = 2
Add 48 to both sides to get:
9x = 50
Divide both sides by 9 to get:
x = 50/9

Checking:
(3/2)(50/9) - 8 = (1/3)
25/3 - 24/3 = 1/3
