There are two cups to a pint

There are two pints to a quart, so there are 4 cups to a quart.

There are 4 quarts to a gallon so there are 16 cups to a gallon.

If there are 16 cups to a gallon, then there are 8 cups to a half gallon.

1.5 gallons is one and one-half gallons, so 16 cups plus 8 cups is 24 cups.
