Question 399935: Tata Jose is planning to fence his rectangular bacyard for his ducks and geese. He has 26 m of chicken wire to build the perimeter. What should the dimensions of the fence be if the length is to be 3m longer than the width? Answer by Tatiana_Stebko(1539) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! If the width is x
Then the length is (x+3) (because the length is to be 3m longer than the width)
FORMULA: The perimeter of the rectangular is
L - the length
W - the width
So perimeter of the rectangular is 2*(x+(x+3))
From Problem perimeter is 26 m
So we have equation:
the width of the rectangular backyard is 5m
Then the length is (x+3)=5+3=8m
Answer 5m and 8m
