Question 399618: Stan can load his truck in 24 minutes. If Chris helps him, it takes 15 minutes to load the truck. How long does it take Chris alone?
I understand what the problem is asking, but I do not know how to set up an equation for it. I had:
1/24+1/x=15
Time of stan=24
time of chris=x
total time together=15
Can you help me? Answer by checkley79(3341) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 1/24+1/X=1/15 COMBINE LEFT HAND TERMS USING THE COMMON DENOMINATOR.
(X+24)/24X=1/15 CROSS MULTIPLY.
24X=15(X+24)
24X=15X=360
24X-15X=360
9X=360
X=360/9
X=40 MINUTES FOR CHRIS WORKING ALONE.
PROOF:
1/24+1/40=1/15
(40+24)/24*40=1/15
64/960=1/15
1/15=1/15
