Take any number x. Surely x=x is true for ALL x.


Now simply add any number you want to the left or right side. I'm going to add the number 1 to the right side to get x=x%2B1. This equation has no solution.


Here's why:


x=x%2B1 Start with the given equation.


x-x=1 Subtract x from both sides.


0x=1 Combine like terms on the left side.


0=1 Simplify.


Since this equation is NEVER true for any x value, this means that there are no solutions.


So this confirms our original claim.
