You can put this solution on YOUR website! Find the equation of the line through (6,-3) which meets the x axis at x=3. Enter your solution in the form y=mx+b.
.
If a line "meets the x axis at x=3" then the point must be at (3,0)
Two points given then: (3,0) and (6,-3)
.
Slope = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1) = (-3-0)/(6-3) = -3/3 = -1
.
plug (3,0) and -1 into "point-slope" form:
y - y1 = m(x - x1)
y - 0 = -1(x - 3)
y = -1(x - 3)
y = -x + 3 (this is what they're looking for)
