Question 397929: Solve 4 - a-5/a+3 = a^2-1/a+3, and what does a=?

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Solve 4 - a-5/a+3 = a^2-1/a+3, and what does a=?
---
Multiply thru by (a+3) to get:
4(a+3) - (a-5) = a^2-1
----
4a+12 -a+5 = a^2-1
3a+17 = a^2-1
a^2-3a-18 = 0
----
Factor:
(a-6)(a+3) = 0
---
a = 6 or a = -3.
====
But a cannot be -3 as that would
make a+3 be zero in the denominator.
---
Only solution:
a = 6
