If you need 54 ft of fence, and the posts are 9 ft apart, then you'll need 54%2F9=6 posts

If posts are spaced 9 feet apart, 6 + 1 = 7 posts are needed for 54 feet of straight-line fencing. The fencing would consist of 2 posts at the ends and 5 posts in-between.
