y intercept represent the value of y when the independent x=0. If a word problem deals with a variable x such that it begins with 0, such as money or time and it cannot be negative, the y intercept represent the y value at the start or beginning when x=0.

The Y-Intercept of a line is the point where a line's graph intersects+(crosses) the Y-axis.
for example:
A y-intercept of 3means that a line's graph intersects the Y-axis at the point (0,3).
or
+y-intercept+of -4 means that the graph of a line crosses the Y-axis at the point (0,-4).
