AB = 250 miles (east)
BC = 300 miles ( north)
CD= 700 miles (west)

Draw a perpendicular from A meeting CA at D
we have to find distance AD
..
AD is the hypotenuse of the right triangle ADC
AD = BC = 300
DC= CA-CD but CD = AB= 250 So DC = 700-250= 350 miles
AC^2= AD^2+DC^2
AC^2= 300^2+350^2
AC^2= 212,500
AC = sqrt (212,500)
461 miles
