Question 393740: I have to convert these to miles per hour.
1) A helicopter can travel 2.5 miles in one hour. What is the speed of this helicopter in miles per minute?
2) An ant can travel 25 feet per minute. What is the speed of the ant in miles per hour?
I kind of know how to set it up, i think.
Would you do,
 2.5mi
-------- (That's 2.5 mi. over 1 min.)
 1 min.

I don't know if that's how your supposed to do it. Don't I have to convert something? I don't know!
Please help!
Thanks!

You can put this solution on YOUR website! 1) A helicopter can travel 2.5 miles in one minute. What is the speed of this helicopter in miles per hour?
---
(2.5 miles/min)(60 min/1 hr) = (2.5*60)/(1*1) miles/hr. = 150 miles/hr
==================================================

2) An ant can travel 25 feet per minute. What is the speed of the ant in miles per hour?
(25 ft/min)(1 mile/5280 ft)(60 min/1 hr) = (25*1*60)/(1*5280*1)(miles/hr)
---
= 0.2841 miles/hr

Hi
speed in mph for the folowing
1)helicopter can travel 2.5 miles in one hour
      speed is 2.5mph
2)ant can travel 25 feet per minute (60min = 1hour)
that is: 25*60ft in one hour OR 1500/5280 miles in one hour (5280ft = 1 mile)
   speed is .284mph

You can put this solution on YOUR website! 1) A helicopter can travel 25 miles in one hour. What is the speed of this helicopter in miles per minute?
"Miles per hour" means the same as "miles in ONE hour" which also means
"miles OVER hours" or where means "miles" and means hours.
So to convert

to (where means "minutes")
We use the fact that = to build a unit fraction with
one of those in the numerator and the other in the denominator, either
or , whichever serves the purpose of getting rid of the hours and bringing in the minutes .
To decide which one we want in the numerator and which in the denominator,
we observe that

has in the denominator. So to cancel away the in the denominator we need
an in the numerator, So we make the unit fraction
and multiply it by like this

Then we can cancel the hours ( 's) like this:

and all that's left is

which is the same as

which can be reduced to

or as a decimal .4166666667

2) An ant can travel 25 feet per minute. What is the speed of the ant in miles per hour?
So to convert

to (where means "feet")
We again use the fact that = to build a unit fraction with
one of those in the numerator and the other in the denominator, either
or , whichever serves the purpose of getting rid of the minutes and bringing in the hours .
To decide which one we want in the numerator and which in the denominator,
we observe that

has in the denominator. So to cancel away the in the denominator we need
an in the numerator, So we make the unit fraction
and multiply it by like this

Then we can cancel the hours ( 's) like this:

But now we must also get rid of the feet and bring in the miles:
So now we use the fact that = to build a unit fraction with
one of those in the numerator and the other in the denominator, either
or , whichever serves the purpose of getting rid of the feet and bringing in the miles .
To decide which one we want in the numerator and which in the denominator,
we observe that

has in the numerator. So to cancel away the in the numerator we need
an in the denominator, So we make the unit fraction
and multiply it by the above like this

Then we can cancel the feet

and all that's left is

which is the same as

which reduces to fraction form

or decimal form 0.2840909091
