2(x+1) = x-11 ... (first multiply out to get rid of the parenthesis)


2x+2 = x-11 ... (subtract the lone x from both sides of the equation)


x+2 = -11 ... (subtract 2 from both sides of the equation)


x = -13

-24 = -24
