You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Hi
2x^2 + 5x - 8 = 0 Note: the use of the ^ (upper case 6)
completing the square
2(x^2 + 5/2x) - 8 = 0
2[(x +5/4)^2 - 25/16] - 8 = 0
2(x + 5/4)^2 -25/8 - 8 = 0
2(x + 5/4)^2 -25/8 - 64/8 = 0
2(x + 5/4)^2 = 89/8
(x+5/4)^2 = 89/16
x + 5/4 = ± sqrt(89/16)
x = -5/4 ± sqrt(89)/4 = (-5 ± sqrt(89))/4
