Question 391975: RATINGS OF CAR ENGINE OIL Rating 10W 15W 20W
Relative Speed of Flow
Half as fast as 5W oil
Half as fast as 10W oil
Half as fast as 15W oil
According to the table above ,car engine oil with a rating of 5w flows how many times as fast as car engine oil with a rating of 20w ?
A)2 B) 4 C) 8 D) 16 E) 32 Answer by josmiceli(19441) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 10W flows at rate = (1/2) x 5W
15W flows at rate = (1/2) x 10W
20 W flows at rate = (1/2) x 15W
-------------------------
I can rewrite this data as:
(1) 5W flows at 2 x 10W
(2) 10W flows at 2 x 15W
(3) 15W flows at 2 x 20W
--------------------
I can combine (1) and (2) to say
5W flows at 2 x (2 x 15W) = 4 x 15W
--------------------
Now I can combine this result with (3)
5W flows at rate 4 x (2 x 20W) = 8 x 20W
--------------------
So, 5W flows 8 times as fast as 20W
