Question 391235: justneed to check my answer to this problem...once again working with sin, cos, and tan in the math solver.
the question: the leaning tower of piza is 179 feet high, making a 5.1 degree angle with the vertical. find the distance from the base of the tower to the vertical. round your solution to the nearest foot.
i got: 178.3 feet by putting cos(5.1)-(x/179) into the math solver
*we have to put the calculator into degree mode in my class
please help as soon as possible!!
You can put this solution on YOUR website! the leaning tower of piza is 179 feet high, making a 5.1 degree angle with the vertical. find the distance from the base of the tower to the vertical. round your solution to the nearest foot.
i got: 178.3 feet by putting cos(5.1)-(x/179) into the math solver
--------------
Draw the picture.
You have a right triangle with height = 179 ft. with a 5.1 degree
angle at the top of the tower. The 90 degree angle is on the ground.
An angle of 84.9 degrees is at the base of the tower.
--------------------
The side opposite the 5.1 degree angle is the distance from the base
of the tower to the vertical.
sin(5.1) = base/179
base = 179*sin(5.1) = 15.912 ft.
