You can put this solution on YOUR website! How many pounds of a 35% silver alloy must be melted with how many pounds of a 65% silver alloy to obtain 20 pounds of 41% silver alloy?
------
Equation:
silver + silver = silver
0.35x + 0.65(20-x) = 0.41*20
---------------------------
Multiply thru by 100 to get:
35x + 65*20 - 65x = 41*20
-30x = -24*20
---
x = 16 lbs (amt. of 35% alloy needed in the mix)
---
20-x = 4 lbs (amt. of 65% alloy needed in the mix)
