A picture has a height that is 4/3 its width. It is to be enlarged to have an area of 192 square inches. What will be the dimensions of the enlargement?
Thank you so much I just do not understand. Answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(22740) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! A picture has a height that is 4/3 its width.
It is to be enlarged to have an area of 192 square inches.
What will be the dimensions of the enlargement?
:
Let x = the width of the enlargement
then x = the height of the enlargement
:
The area is height * width, therefore
x*x = 192
which is x^2 = 192
multiply both sides by 3 to get rid of the denominator
4x^2 = 192 * 3
4x^2 = 576
Divide both sides by 4 and you have
x^2 = 144
x =
x = 12 is width
then * 12 = 16 is the height
:
:
We can confirm this by finding the area with these values
12 * 16 = 192

Not that hard, right?
