You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Hi,
Letting y represent the amount of the fine, and x the number weeks late
Write as we Read
y = .5x (amount in dollars for the fine)
Using the standard slope-intercept form for an equation of a line y = mx + b
where m is the slope and b the y-intercept.
slope m = .5 = 1/2
y-intercept (when x=0) is Pt(0,0)
x-intercept (when y = 0) is Pt (0,0)
Note: slope of the line: as y increases/decreases by 1, x increases/decreases by 2
