SOLUTION: This is from Dr. Rapalje's Intermediate Algebra book. Page 81, #8
Solve the inequality. Give answer in interval notation.
-8 - 3(X - 4) < 3(6 - X)
I ended up with x < 14

Question 39024: This is from Dr. Rapalje's Intermediate Algebra book. Page 81, #8
Solve the inequality. Give answer in interval notation.
-8 - 3(X - 4) < 3(6 - X)
I ended up with x < 14
The answer is (-oo, oo)
I have no idea how he came up with that answer. Thanks! Answer by fractalier(6550) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! From -8 - 3(X - 4) < 3(6 - X)
let us multiply everything out first and get
-8 - 3x + 12 < 18 - 3x
now combine
4 - 3x < 18 - 3x
Now add 3x to both sides and get
4 < 18
Now ask yourself, "For what values of x is 4 less than 18?"
Well, all of them. That's why the answer in interval notation is
(-oo, oo) .
