You can put this solution on YOUR website!
4x(.25)+x(.10)=2.20

4x(0.25)+x(0.1)=2.2
Multiply 4x by each term inside the parentheses.
x+x(0.1)=2.2
Multiply x by each term inside the parentheses.
x+0.1x=2.2
Since x and 0.1x are like terms, add 0.1x to x to get 1.1x.
1.1x=2.2
Divide each term in the equation by 1.1.
(1.1x)/(1.1)=(2.2)/(1.1)
Cancel the common factor of 1.1.
x=(2.2)/(1.1)
Divide 2.2 by 1.1 to get 2.
x=2
So if x=2
then 4x(quarters)=8 quarters
and x=2 dimes

If n is the number of dimes, then 4n is the number of quarters. Also,

10n + 25(4n) = 220

110n = 220

n = 2

So, Bill has 2 dimes and 8 quarters.
