let x = miles from hotel to airport
as given,cost for the first 1/5 mile =2.50
remaining miles = x-1/5=x-.2 or (x-.2)/.2 remaining number of (1/5) miles
cost for remaining miles ( (x-.2)/.2)*.35
total cost = 2.50 +(( (x-.2)/.2)*.35=14.75
multiply by .2
total cost = .5 +(x-.2)*.35 =2.95
=.5+.35x-.07 =2.95
.35x =2.95-.5+.07=2.52
x =2.52/.35 =7.2 mi
ans: miles from hotel to airport is 7.2
