5x / (x^2 - 9) - 4 / (3 - x) =
5x / (x^2 - 9) + 4 / (x - 3) = (notice that trick)
5x / (x+3)(x-3) + 4 / (x - 3) =
5x / (x+3)(x-3) + 4(x+3) / (x+3)(x-3) (making denominators the same)
[5x + 4(x+3)] / (x+3)(x-3) =
[5x + 4x + 12] / (x+3)(x-3) =
(9x + 12) / (x+3)(x-3)
That's about as far as you can go...you could factor the numerator into 3(3x+4) but it doesn't help simplify things...
