Let represent the number of adult tickets sold. Let represent the number of child tickets sold. Since adult tickets cost $6, the value of all of the adult tickets sold must be . Likewise, the value of all of the child tickets has to be .

The sum of these two values has to be the total cash receipts (unless they sold some space alien tickets we don't know about), so we can write:
