Question 387277: Each of two inventions saves 40% on fuel. If you use both inventions, what percent of fuel is saved? (it is not 80%) Answer by robertb(5830) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let x = original fuel consumption. Then after using one invention your consumption is 0.6x. Using the other invention cuts your consumption to 0.6*0.6x = 0.36x. Hence you save 100% - 36% = 64%.
