Question 38687: A rectangle with dimension 5 x 8 is inscribed in a circle. What are the area and circumference of the circle? Also, find the area of the region inside the circle not covered by the rectangle. (inscribed means inside the vertex's touching the edge of the circle.)

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
From the rectangle you can find the diameter of the circle by dividing the rectangle in half.
THis leaves you with a right triangle:
5%5E2%2B8%5E2=c%5E2
89=c%5E2
c=9.4 (rounded)
The diameter of the circle is 9.4
Circumference = pi%2Ad
=9.4%2Api
=29.6
Hence, the circumference is 29.6.
Area = pi%2Ar%5E2
r=4.7
=pi%2A4.7%5E2
=69.9
Hence, the area is 69.9
Region not covered by the triangle = area of the circle - area of the rectangle .
Area for the rectangle: 5*8=40
= 69.9-40
=29.9
Hence, the area not covered by the triangle is 29.9
