Hi,
Let x represent how many cats did he saw
Question Sets Up the Proportion..cats to dogs seen
2%2F5+=+x%2F40
Cross Multiply to solve for x
5x = 2*40
5x = 80
x = 16, how many cats did he saw
CHECKING our Answer
2/5 = 16/40 = 2/5
