Cross Multiplying to solve for x

 x-9 = (x-8)(x-9)

 x -9 = x^2 -17x + 72

  x^2 - 18x + 81 = 0

factoring

(x -9)(x -9)=0 Note:SUM of the inner product(-9x) and the outer product(-9x) = -18x

(x -9)= 0

(x -9)=0

  x = 9
