Question 384735: A lever 12m long balances weights of 48kg on one end and 24kg on the other end. Find the lengths of the two arms of the lever. Answer by richard1234(7193) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! We know that torque equals force*radius, or mass*radius since gravity on Earth is constant in this case. If x is the distance from the 48 kg mass to the fulcrum, then
48x = 24(12 - x)
2x = 12 - x
x = 4 m, 12 - x = 8 m
