You can put this solution on YOUR website! The difference between two numbers is 8. The sum of five times the larger number and the smaller number is 160. What are the two numbers?
Sol'n:
let: x - the larger number
y - the smaller number
x-y=8 ----(1)
5x+y=160 ----(2)
from (1)
x=8+y
substitute to (2)
5(8+y)+y=160
40+5y+y=160
6y=160-40
6y=120
y=20
for x:
x=8+20
x=28
thus:
x=28 & y=20 ----answer
