You can put this solution on YOUR website! quarters = x
dimes = x+8
..
total = 255 cents
..
25x+10(x+8)=255
25x+10x+80=255
35x+80=255
-80
35x=255-80
35x=175
x=5 quarters
..
dimes = x+8 = 5+8 =13

You can put this solution on YOUR website! to solve these kind of questions you need to set up a system and solve it. when you have on of these problems with amount of money and # of the pices, put the money together and the #'s together! then put .10 for a dime and .25 for a quarter.
.10d+.25q=$2.55.............(the first equation)
d= 8+q......................(since she had 8 more of the quarters than the
.............................dimes; the second equation)
now you solve the easiest way for these questions is substitution!
.10*(8+q)+.25q= 2.55
.8+ .10q+.25q= 2.55
.8+ .35q= 2.55
-.8........-.8
.35q/.35 = 1.75/.35
q=5 :) and that's how many quarters she has! & if you want to know how many dimes just plug the # of quarters back in and you can find it!!!! :D
you r welcome :) glade i could help!
