x - y = 1 and
x = (1/2)y + 2
Let us subtract 1/2y in the second one and then subtract equations..
x - y = 1
x - (1/2)y = 2
which leads to
-(1/2)y = -1
and
y = 2
plug that in the first eqn and get
x = 3
