Question 380293: Gerard cross-country skis 4 km/hr faster than Sally. Sally can ski 18km in the same time that Gerard skis 24km. Find there speeds. Answer by kutekarthik(3) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let Gerard Speed be S1 and Sally's Speed be S2
Given that Gerard is 4 more faster than the Sally
Hencee S1=4+S2
Speed =Distance/Time
Time =Distance/Speed
Given that Sally can ski 18km in the same time that Gerard skis 24km
Hence 18/S2 = 24/S1 >> 18*S1=24*S2
Sub the value of S1 in the above equation , we get
18(4+S2)=24*S2
18*S2 + 72 = 24 *S2
6*S2 =72 >> S2=12 Km/hr
Speed of Sally =12 Km/hr
Speed of Gerard = 16 Km/hr
