x +3y=5  y = -x/3 + 5/3

2x-3y=8  y = (2/3)x - (8/3)

3x  = 13

x = 13/3

solving for y using the 1st equation

13/3 +3y = 5

3y = 15/3 - 13/3 = 2/3

y = 2/9
