You can put this solution on YOUR website!
It took 7 3/4 gallons of gas to fill the tank of the family car.
If the tank was 1/8 full when they arrived at the gas station how much gas does the tank hold?
:
Change 73%2F4 to 31%2F4 gal
:
Let x = no. of gallons the tank can hold
:
x = 1%2F8x + 31%2F4
Multiply by 8, results
8x = x + 2(31)
8x - x = 62
7x = 62
x = 62%2F7
x = 8.857 gal, the tank will hold
:
:
see if that is true using a calc,
enter 1%2F8*8.857 + 31%2F4 results: 8.857
