Always set up variables for age problems NOW. That is,
let T = Tyrone's age NOW and
let D = his daughter's age NOW.
Thus
T = 2D and
T + 6 = 3(D - 6)
Substituting
2D + 6 = 3D - 18
D = 24
T = 48
