You can put this solution on YOUR website! a forest ranger traveled 1080 mi by jet and then an additional 180 mi by helicopter. the rate of the jet was four times the rate of the helicopter. the entire trip took a total of 5 h. find the rate of the jet.
..
Let rate of helicopter = x mph
distance by helicopter = 180 miles
jet rate 4x mph
distance by jet = 1080 miles
..
Helicopter time + jet time = 5 hours
t=d/r
180/x + 1080/4x=5
...
LCD = 4x
(180*4+1080x)/4x= 5
multiply by 4x
720+1080=20x
20x=1800
/20
x=1800/20
x=90 mph speed of helicopter
jet speed = 4x=4*99=360 mph
