..
width of garden = 9-x
length = 12-x
..
108-(9-x)(12-x)=54
108-(108-21x+x^2=54
x^2-21x-54=0
x^2-18x-3x+54=0
x(x-18)-3(x-18)=0
(x-18)(x-3)=0
x=18 OR 3
