Rewrite this equation using the Associative Property. 

(2s + 1) + 3 = 16 

2s + (1+3) = 16



solving for s

2s + 4 = 16

2s + 4 - 4 = 16 -4

2s = 12

(2s)/2 = 12/2

s = 6



checking our answer

2*6 + 1 + 3 = 12 + 1 + 3 = 16
