Multiply the top eqn by 2, with the purpose of eliminating y: 12x - 2y = 6. Add corresponding sides with the bottom equation, to get 13x = 13, or x = 1. Now, 6*1 - y = 3, or -y = 3-6 = -3, or y = 3.
