Question 373423: x=-9y-1
2x+4y=5
Answer by avani(25) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! x=-9y-1 (1)
2x+4y=5 (2)
Substitute (1) in (2) (note you can also sub. (2) in (1))
2x+4y = 5
2(-9y-1)+4y =5
-18y-2+4y=5
-18y+4y=5+2
-14y=7
y=7/-14
y=-1/2
Now sub. y=-1/2 in (1) to find x (note you can sub. in either (1) or (2))
x=-9(-1/2)-1= 7/2
Thus, x= -0.5 0r -1/2 and y= 3.5 or 7/2
