The sum of two numbers is 84

Let x represent one of the numbers, then (84-x) would be the other

Question states***

x = 3(84-x)

solving for x

x = 3*84 - 3x

4x = 252

x = 63, one of the numbers.  The other is 21.    (84-63)

63 = 3*21
